Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jozef Síkela, will travel today to Nuuk, Greenland, to speak with its representatives, including Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen, on Greenland’s relations with the EU and its strategic importance for the Arctic region.

The Commissioner will notably discuss priorities linked to the EU-Greenland partnership and the EU’s Global Gateway Investments there. He will also hold strategic discussions on key challenges and opportunities facing Arctic communities, as the EU is currently reviewing its Arctic policy to ensure it is fit to address current and future challenges.

This strategy will reflect the Arctic’s growing geopolitical importance, strengthen the EU’s partnerships with Arctic nations, and prepare Europe to address the region’s key role in the international geopolitical landscape with a strong focus on security, resilience, sustainable growth, mutually beneficial partnerships, connectivity and the well-being of Arctic communities.

During his visit, Commissioner Síkela will participate in the biannual EU-Greenland policy dialogue, taking place in Nuuk. This will provide an opportunity to take stock of recent progress and discuss future areas of cooperation. The Commissioner will also participate in the Future Greenland 2026 Conference, which brings together Greenlandic and international public and private stakeholders to exchange on Greenland’s sustainable economic development and the Arctic region’s growing strategic importance and future.

Throughout the visit, the Commissioner will also meet with representatives of the private sector, indigenous communities, civil society and young people. Audiovisual material will be available on EBS.
